Shay Given has sent a message to Harvey Barnes on Instagram after Newcastle United completed his signing from Leicester City in the summer transfer window.
Newcastle United have announced this afternoon that they have signed Harvey Barnes from Leicester City in the summer transfer window.
The England international winger has put pen to paper on a five-year contract.
The Northern Echo has reported that Premier League club Newcastle will pay Championship side Leicester £38 million in transfer fees for the 25-year-old.
Former Newcastle goalkeeper Given has welcomed Barnes to St. James’ Park.
Newcastle United head coach, Eddie Howe, said: “Harvey is an exciting talent who I have admired for a long time so I’m delighted to welcome him to Newcastle United.
“He is strong, quick and very good technically, and he showed last season in particular that he has an eye for goal from wide positions.
“He will add a different element to our play and we look forward to working with him as we prepare for the season ahead.”
Barnes said: “I’m delighted. It’s an amazing club and for me it’s a massive opportunity to come and be involved in a successful team that’s doing exciting things, so I’m absolutely buzzing to be here.
“I think it’s an attacker’s dream to come into a team like this; it’s high paced, it’s physically demanding, but you can see the rewards of that with the chances and the goals scored, so I think I’ll certainly suit the style.”
Harvey Barnes is a very good signing for Newcastle UnitedÂ
In our opinion, Newcastle United have made a very good and smart signing in Harvey Barnes.
Barnes is one of the best English wingers around, and given that he is only 25, he is going to get better and improve his game further.
The winger made 32 starts and two substitute appearances in the Premier League for Leicester last season.
The Englishman scored 13 goals and gave one assist in those games.
Barnes has made 146 appearances in the Premier League so far in his career.
The winger has scored 35 goals and given 25 assists in those matches.
Newcastle finished in the top four of the Premier League table last season and will play in the UEFA Champions League next campaign.
Eddie Howe’s side will be determined to do well in Europe’s premier club competition next season as well as end up in the Premier League top four yet again.
Barnes will play a huge role in that quest.
