Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly made an offer for Leicester City playmaker James Maddison.
The Daily Star have suggested that Tottenham Hotspur have made a bid of £40 million for Leicester City attacking midfielder James Maddison.
The report has added that Spurs are planning to bid £50 million for Manchester United winger Jason Sancho.
“Now, in addition to a £40m offer for the Foxes’ England playmaker, Spurs are poised to join the race for his Three Lions colleague Sancho, who has won 23 caps,” states the report in The Daily Star.
James Maddison would make Tottenham Hotspur better
In our view, Tottenham Hotspur would be a better team with James Maddison in it.
We believe that Maddison could be the playmaker that Spurs have been looking for ever since the departure of Christian Eriksen.
The 26-year-old – described as as “an incredible player” by Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola in The Manchester Evening News in June 2019 – made 28 starts and two substitute appearances in the Premier League for Tottenham this past season.
Maddison scored 10 goals and gave nine assists in those games.
The England international has scored 43 goals and created 50 big chances in 163 appearances in the Premier League so far in his career.
We believe that £40 million is fair price for Maddison.
Remember, Leicester will play in the Championship next season after getting relegated from the Premier League.
So, it is not as if the Foxes can turn down offers like £40 million for their players.
Moreover, Maddison himself could be tempted to move to Tottenham in the summer transfer window.
True, Tottenham will not play in the UEFA Champions League next season, but they do regularly challenge for the Premier League top four.
