Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United are reportedly expected to sign Harvey Barnes ahead of David Moyes’s West Ham United.
According to The Guardian, Newcastle United and West Ham United are interested in signing Harvey Barnes from Leicester City in the summer transfer window.
The report has claimed that West Ham are “expected to lose out to Newcastle in the race to sign” 25-year-old England international winger Barnes, described as “unbelievable” by Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp in Metro in February 2021.
On July 16, 2023, Italian journalist Rudy Galetti reported that West Ham are not giving up on signing the winger and are in talks with Leicester, who will play in the Championship next season after getting relegated from the Premier League.
Newcastle United more likely than West Ham United to sign Harvey Barnes
In our opinion, Newcastle United are more likely than West Ham United to sign Harvey Barnes from Leicester City in the summer transfer window.
The 25-year-old prefers a move to Newcastle, according to Galetti, and it is hard to see West Ham being able to convince him to change his mind.
After all, Newcastle will play in the UEFA Champions League next season and will also aim to finish in the top four of the Premier League table.
West Ham, who won the UEFA Europa Conference League last season, are unlikely to challenge for the Premier League top four on a regular basis anytime soon.
Barnes made 32 starts and two substitute appearances in the Premier League for Leicester last season.
The Leicester no. 7 scored 13 goals and gave one assist in those games.
Barnes has made 146 appearances in the Premier League so far in his career.
The winger has scored 35 goals and given 25 assists in those games.
