Leeds United tried to sign Queens Park Rangers star Ilias Chair
According to The Mirror journalist Darren Witcoop, Leeds United wanted to sign Ilias Chair from Championship rivals Queens Park Rangers on Friday.
Witcoop claimed on Twitter that Leeds were ready to pay £6 million in transfer fees to bring the 25-year-old attacking midfielder to Elland Road.
Leicester City were also keen on Chair, but QPR decided not to sell the Morocco international, who can also play as a winger.
It was always unlikely that Leeds would be able to sign Chair so late in the summer transfer window.
Rangers simply did not have enough time to find a replacement.
QPR have started the new season badly, and the London club will surely not want to let go of an important player such as Chair.
Chair has been on the books of QPR since 2017 and has been very good for Rangers over the years.
The 25-year-old has played four times in the Championship for QPR so far this season.
Chair has been deployed as a left winger in those games.
The Morocco international made 38 starts and two substitute appearances in the Championship for QPR last season.
Chair scored five goals and gave nine assists in those matches.
