Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal or Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United could reportedly be able to sign Leicester City attacking midfielder James Maddison for £40 million.
Football Transfers reported last week that Arsenal and Newcastle United are interested in signing James Maddison from Leicester City in the summer transfer window.
The report claimed that Newcastle are confident that they will be able to convince the England international playmaker to snub Arsenal for them.
The Mirror reported last month that Arsenal are keen on Maddison, described as “perfect” by talkSPORT pundit and Rangers legend Ally McCoist in March.
The Athletic are reporting this morning that Maddison could be sold for £40 million.
The report has claimed that “several intermediaries have suggested to The Athletic that Maddison’s market value — taking into account his contract situation — sits at around £40million”.
£40m a bargain price for James Maddison, Arsenal and Newcastle United should pounce
In our view, if £40 million is what it would take to sign James Maddison, then Arsenal and Newcastle United should make bids.
They simply have to.
Now, of course, Arsenal do have a very good creative midfield department.
Martin Odegaard has been superb for the Gunners, who also have Emile Smith Rowe on their books.
However, Arsenal will play in the UEFA Champions League next season and will also aim to win the Premier League title in the coming years.
Newcastle will play in Europe’s premier club competition next season as well, and have grand plans under PIF.
Maddison is one of the most creative players out there, and we believe that he would jump at the chance to move to Arsenal or Newcastle in the summer transfer window.
The 26-year-old made 28 starts and two substitute appearances in the Premier League for Leicester this past season.
Maddison scored 10 goals and gave nine assists in those games.
