Arsenal are now pressing ahead with a move to sign Leicester City defender Timothy Castagne following their relegation.
Arsenal have opened talks over a deal to sign Timothy Castagne from Leicester City this summer.
That is according to Belgian reporter Sacha Tavolieri, who has taken to Twitter to discuss Castagne’s future.
Tavolieri claims that Castagne is Arsenal’s second-choice target at right back, behind Real Valladolid talent Ivan Fresneda.
Tavolieri adds that Arsenal have already started talks with Leicester to figure out a potential deal for Castagne.
It’s stated that ‘things could develop quickly’ with Arsenal now going for Castagne this summer.
Tavolieri has been a reliable reporter of Belgian football news and Arsenal fans should trust his claims.
This follows on from The Mirror reporting in May that Arsenal were keen to land Castagne from Leicester this summer.
There appears to be real weight behind Arsenal’s interest in Castagne and the Gunners could benefit from Leicester’s relegation.
Timothy Castagne can offer versatility to Arsenal
Castagne is a right back by trade but he has also featured over on the left flank at Leicester and Atalanta in years gone by.
The 27-year-old has also featured as a wing back on both sides, meaning he can give real versatility to Mikel Arteta.
A full back who can feature on both flanks would be ideal for Arsenal given Takehiro Tomiyasu’s injury and Kieran Tierney’s uncertain future.
Castagne can be that player and he was very dependable this season, starting 36 Premier League games.
This isn’t the first time Arsenal have been linked with Castagne either.
Castagne’s agent claimed back in 2020 that Arsenal were ‘seriously interested’ in signing the Belgium international from Atalanta.
No deal materialised though as Castagne instead joined Leicester, where he has been a regular starter ever since.
Arsenal could finally land their man this summer, no doubt hoping for a relatively cheap deal following Leicester’s relegation.
